Texas Legislative Progressive Caucus Celebrates Growing Unity, Power

In Fight for Working Texans

AUSTIN, TX — Today, the Texas Legislative Progressive Caucus proudly celebrates the rising power of Texas progressives as a bloc committed to building a state where everyone has the freedom to prosper and thrive, as evidenced by the Texas Tribune’s ideological rankings.

The Caucus recognizes State Representative Christina Morales (HD 135, Houston), Caucus Treasurer and one of TLPC’s Outstanding Members of the Session, for voting as the most progressive member of the Texas House for the 89th Legislature. The rankings also highlight returning progressive champions and Caucus members, including Representatives Ron Reynolds, Ana-María Rodríguez Ramos, Terry Meza, Jessica González, Vikki Goodwin, Lulu Flores, Gina Hinojosa, and John Bryant in the top ten.

“I ran [for office] to carry the stories and struggles of the people I represent,” said Representative Christina Morales. “Being named the most progressive member of the Texas House is an honor, but more than anything, it reflects the values of my district. Every vote I cast is rooted in the hopes of working families fighting to make ends meet, students dreaming of a better future, and neighbors who simply want to be seen and heard. I’ll keep showing up – for them, and because of them.”

"Christina Morales is a relentless advocate for justice, equity, and dignity for working Texans, and a close personal friend," said TLPC Chair Rep. Ana-María Rodríguez Ramos. "Her leadership this session has shown what’s possible when we stay united, speak truth to power, and put families first. Texans want good schools, safe neighborhoods, and leaders who put people over profits. The progressive caucus is delivering that vision with growing strength and unity."

Representative Morales' legislative record this session was rooted in bold, people-first policy that puts the needs of working families front and center. Her flagship bill, HB 178, would give Texas students the option to take ethnic studies, an essential step toward restoring truth in education amidst the state’s growing attacks on diversity, equity, and inclusion. She also introduced measures to improve public transit safety, expand language access in government services, and strengthen workplace protections. Morales’ legislative portfolio reflects a deep commitment to fairness, inclusion, and the everyday dignity of Texans across race and class, values core to the Caucus’ work.

The rankings come at the close of one of the most corrupt and extreme sessions in recent history, in which billionaire-backed politicians pushed through a private school voucher scam and policies straight from the Project 2025 playbook that strip liberties and increase power for the wealthy and well-connected. Yet progressives held the line, blocking dangerous bills, amplifying community voices, and fighting for a fairer economy.

Now more than ever, it is critical to fight for justice for Texas families navigating economic instability. The Texas Legislative Progressive Caucus remains committed to its bold policy platform centered on putting money in people’s pockets, lowering daily costs of living, expanding healthcare, ensuring safe and affordable housing, and rooting out government corruption.
